10 Ways Your Family Can Help Take Care of The Earth.

 

The Earth produces only so much resources in a year, and as each year passes, humans use up the natural resources created in that year quicker than the last year. Here at Norlite, we want to promote sustainability so that we can all have the natural resources that we need for a life time. Here are 10 ways you and your family can help take care of the Earth!

1. Use reusable cups instead of plastic cups or water bottles.

Besides reducing waste, minimizing your plastic use will help create cleaner oceans. There will also be less resources being used to either incinerate or make the plastic products.

2. While grocery shopping, bring your own bags!

When you bring your own bags, you are not only reducing waste, you are saving resources Plastic bags may seem light and inoffensive but they have a surprisingly large environmental footprint. It also helps prevent pollution plastic pollution is a serious global problem.

3.Turn off the lights to conserve energy & use natural light.

By turning off your lights when you aren't using them, you can do your part to reduce carbon emissions and therefore help the environment. And reducing your home's energy usage doesn't just help the environment . This will also help your parents wallet.

4. Ride your bike instead of driving.

Riding your bike allows less emissions to rise in the air and will also save you and your family from having to pay for gas (another natural resource).

5. Always shut the water OFF.

When you leave the water on, you waste resources and energy since each flush, each tub draining, and each drop of water that comes out of your faucet, costs money and time to reclean and reuse. When you minimize your water use, your community will have more of this resource to use for a longer period of time.

6. Donate instead of throwing away.

When you donate, you help the earth and others in need! Unused material goes to landfills and clothing material does not compose easily.

7. Recycle your used paper & plastics.

8. Reuse and repurpose materials such as making rags out of old clothing.

9. Watch a documentary about nature or reducing waste as a family!

Making popcorn and watching a documentary promotes quality family time, and you all can learn about how to save the Earth! To make the movie night more fun, make a trivia game afterwards by asking questions to your family members abut the film.

10. Plant a garden!

Why buy produce when you can grow it in your yard? Planting a garden is great for the ecosystem and is generally a healthier option compared to store bought foods. After you are finished with your unused produce, it can be used as fertilizer for the soil (compost).
